Job Description
he Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (www.fraunhofer.com) currently operates 76 institutes and research institutions throughout Germany and is the world’s leading applied research organization. Around 30 000 employees work with an annual research budget of 2.9 billion euros. Fraunhofer FHR in Wachtberg near Bonn is part of the large Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and one of the leading and largest European research institutes in the field of high frequency physics and radar technology. The institute handles numerous multinational research projects with academic and industrial partners.Detection of moving targets on the ground is a well-known application of airborne radar, used among others in case of natural disasters and also for military purposes. Established modern methods such as adaptive space-time processing (STAP) provide good detection performance, but still have potential for improvement; for example, they require accurate training data. Therefore, we from the department "Signal Processing & Imaging" are continuously investigating new theoretical methods of measurement data analysis regarding their potential to improve motion target detection. Currently, we find the extensive data collection of the institute particularly useful for projection-based methods and machine learning approaches.
