Around 30 800 employees work with an annual research budget of 3.0 billion euros. At the Fraunhofer Research Institution for Energy Infrastructures and Geothermal Energy IEG, we conduct research in the fields of integrated energy infrastructures, geothermal energy and sector coupling for a successful energy transition. Based at seven different locations spread throughout Germany, we pursue applied research to develop innovative technologies for our clients from public agencies and private enterprises, with the ultimate objective of transferring innovation into marketable products and processes. Our team at Energy Infrastructures and Geothermal Energy IEG is developing software tools for infrastructure simulation. To extend the tools usability, we are seeking a working student who as knowledge in fluid dynamics, has interest in open-source and is skilled in Python programming. What you will do Contribution to the design and development of our evolving open-source software packages www.pandapipes.orgTransfer your knowledge on fluid dynamics into a pipe flow simulation.Work closely with the pandapipes developer team to implement new feature and be part of the release process.Developing your own new features, functions and modules for energy infrastructure modelling software.  What you bring to the table You are pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering, computer science, applied mathematics, the natural sciences or a related field with a focus on IT.Python programming skills and hands-on experience in Python development.Familiarity with various Python packages such as pandas, networkX.Familiarity with methods to speed up code.Experience with version control systems such as Git.Basic knowledge in fluid dynamics.
