Job Description
Our chair researches how machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) can be used in robotics to carry out increasingly complex tasks with robots. Our goal is to continuously advance the widespread use of robots in socially relevant areas of application (including production and logistics, health and transport and as helpers in everyday life). We are working on innovative and sustainable solutions to the central challenges of our time, such as the labor shortage and demographic change. In particular, we are known worldwide for our work on safe and reliable learning algorithms for robotics . Our research has received high international recognition with prizes such as the Alexander von Humboldt Professorship for Artificial Intelligence (the most valuable research award in Germany), the Sloan Research Fellowship (USA) and the NSERC Arthur McDonald Award (Canada). Our chair is part of the Munich Institute of Robotics and Machine Intelligence (MIRMI), an integrative research center that offers an internationally outstanding science and technology environment in robotics, machine learning and artificial intelligence. With its interdisciplinary orientation at the interfaces of engineering, natural sciences, IT, social sciences and humanities, MIRMI is a central component of the future strategy of the Technical University of Munich. Prof. Angela Schoellig, together with three other board members, forms the MIRMI Board of Directors and thus defines its strategy and vision. The team spirit comes first in all of our activities. Through successful collaborations, including across disciplines, we are innovative and forward-looking in research, teaching and administration.
