Job Description
At the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology IPT in Aachen, we work with more than 530 employees every day to ensure that the production of the future becomes more digital, sustainable and resilient. In the High-Performance Machining Technologies department, we develop application-oriented solutions for machining along the entire process chain - from process design and real-time data acquisition during production to consulting and prototype production. The aim of our current research project “QUASIM – Quantum Computing Enhanced Service Ecosystem for Simulation in Manufacturing” is to develop and test quantum computing (QC) solutions in manufacturing using machining processes as an example. Together with our project partners, we are investigating to what extent QC support can accelerate the creation of a digital twin in machining and thus improve the quality of the results. The project partners can use real QC hardware for the research work: both the QC infrastructure that has just been put into operation at the Jülich Research Center and the “IBM Q System One” in the “Quantum Computing Competence Center Baden-Württemberg”.
